MINEX Central Asia 2018
THE 9th CENTRAL ASIAN MINING & EXPLORATION FORUM
Organised under the central theme “Central Asia – moving up with the buoyant markets” the Forum will offer an industry-wide discussion on the strategic rethinking of mining industry development and will highlight emerging investment and technological opportunities across the mineral-rich countries of Central Asia.
MINEX Central Asia Forum regularly brought together over 300 government regulators, mine operators, prospectors, geologists, investors, experts, financiers and service companies from Central Asia, CIS and overseas.
Managing projects in evolving regulatory environmentAdapting new technologies (from exploration and mining to processing and mine site reclamation)Exploration and mineral resource developmentFunding mining and exploration projects
The downturn in the mining financial sector has been replaced by growth. Investment indices of the main stock markets have been reaching new highs. Appetite of investors in mining IPO’s is steadily increasing. In addition to traditional sources of funding, new ways of funding mining projects are emerging, e.g. block-chain backed ICOs and crowdfunding.
On the back of the buoyant markets important changes in Mining regulation have taken place in Kazakhstan in the recent months. In December 2017 Kazakhstan adopted the Code “On Subsoil and Subsoil Use”, the Tax Code and a number of legislative acts aimed at creating a stable environment for subsoil users and stimulating inward investment in the mining sector. The new financial hub for funnelling funding into economic growth of Kazakhstan and countries of the Central Asian region is being developed by International Financial Centre in Astana. Other countries e.g. Uzbekistan and Kyrgyz Republic are also carrying out reforms aimed at attracting investments in geological exploration and modernisation of mining enterprises.
Mining industry in Central Asia is actively modernising to improve efficiency and reduce costs. “Industry 4.0” technologies are being implemented by major players. Use of artificial intelligence in managing mines in Kazakhstan has become a reality.
Exploration companies are implementing new technologies and methods for accelerated prospecting and evaluation of deposits.
These market changes create favourable conditions for investing in mining projects, transfer of cutting edge technologies and unlocking vast mineral and metals potential of Kazakhstan and the countries of Central Asia.
Established in 2010 MINEX Central Asia is one of the largest and most authoritative international mining events in the region. The Forum provides an industry-wide platform for presenting developments in the mining industries of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

To maintain sustainable development, mining companies need to continuously invest in the renewal of mineral resources, infrastructure development, personnel training and business processes improvement.
Constant improvement of efficiency and reduction of costs presents a great challenge to many mining enterprises, as mistakes can be very costly. The success of modern mining enterprise relies on many internal and external factors. How efficient is the management? Is there a good knowledge and skills set? Do the leaders and operational managers work in sync and share the same goals? Are the right technologies and equipment being used to achieve best results? Is there a culture for innovation and self-improvement? The word “innovation” is no longer a tribute to fashion.
Ability of companies to innovate is the main pre-requisite for keeping up with the low margins and challenging environment. MINEX Central Asia 2018 Forum will stimulate practical discussion on how local and international businesses innovate to meet regulatory changes, adapt new technologies, manage social and safety pressures, fund and develop projects, and much more.
