Dr Maximov leads the Environmental Science team in the consultancy practice at SRK Kazakhstan. Ivan has a Master’s degree from Lomonosov Moscow State University, Russia (1997) in Physical geography (majoring in hydrology and hydroecology), and a Ph.D degree from the University of Cincinnati, USA (2003) (majoring in water quantity/quality and environmental modelling). Ivan has broad range of expertise in environmental conservation and water resources areas. Initially trained as a surface water hydrologist with specialization in water quantity and quality modeling, he has more than 10 years’ experience in the environmental and social management and has worked in Afghanistan, Bulgaria, Croatia, Egypt, Mongolia, Republic of Georgia, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, USA, Russia and Kazakhstan. He has a depth of experience of managing environmental and social appraisal projects (ESIA/EHSDDA) to IFC/EBRD/USAID/Equator Principles standards across a number of industry sectors, including mining, thermal power, renewables, water resources and oil & gas.

Consideration of environmental and social aspects in mining project development in accordance with accepted international standards


The presentation addresses the topics of environmental and social risks evaluation, environmental and social impact assessment and general approaches to non-technical (environmental and social) risk management in mining projects appraisal and development in line with accepted international practices and standards (CRIRSCO template, JORC Code and KAZRC Code). The presentation briefly discusses the requirements for non-technical risk evaluation at different project development stages, including earlier stages and more advanced levels of preliminary FS (PFS) and detailed FS (DFS).
